Don't laugh - I needed the Minidisc in a hurry(the only day I could shop!), so I shelled 220 for it (a sony MZR 9000 because it was the only one with line out) - the sony stereo mic was ?80 - From Beaver Hifi, say no more.
If I'd had the time to look deeper into it I would probably have gone with a Sennheiser or something. Not to mention an MD from a cheaper source!
The aspect ratio? I don't think my camera has one I think it's on 4:3, standard PAL. I think the camera does 16:9 (+anamorphic) too, but I couldn't be arsed with the jiggery pokery. I'm an artist, not a technician/treasurer!

Shooting ratio is how many minutes you filmed and how many ended up in the final cut. not to eb confused with Aspect Ratio or tinned tuna

Hey Paul,

I have exactly the same sound set up, and let me tell you that little mic you paid for is excellent for ?80, I've heard nothing like it in the same price range. It was recommended to me by a musician friend. It's got a brilliant depth and richness to it. Obviously it's not the best money can by and if you wanted to use it on a boom, it starts getting trickier as standard.

The best thing I find it for is picking up sound on location or anywhere. I'm forever carrying around with me and picking up crazy or interesting sounds that I hear around me all the time.

I'm gonna be getting a K6 next for a proper boom mic and possibly whack it on top of a 3 chipper if I shoot any DV, but I'm going down the S8 route at the mo. Regarding the Minidisc, it too is top of the range, and you paid about the going rate for it. It has options and features that other MD's don't and can be important for production. Again it's not the best money can buy, but is an excellent starting point, that will have lots of longevity, which is what is primarily important.

I tried to do a few takes of everything to make sure I had the most flexibility during the edit. Obviously it would have worked better if I'd done at least one take of certain shots...

Don't get me wrong, it worked great, although I think the sound recordist may have been faulty (just kidding ste)
I also used a shower curtain rail as a boom, except it wasn't long enough (It also has a cameo role in the film - D'Oh!)
As for the MD, I bought it for ?20 more than every other shop I tried, but it was the only place that had any!

I don't know much about BAFTA but I've heard it's great for schmoozin'. A friend of mine got quite a few contacts from one of their bashes.

Great thread by the way. Really inspiring. I'm just about to step into mini-moviemaking with my new miniDV cam. It's got a mic socket and I'm worried about sound. Did you stick a piece of sponge over your Sony mic or did it come with some kind of wind protection?
